History Context
I went to Hong Kong in 1974 as an exchange trainee at the College of Hong Kong. HKU was the leading college in Hong Kong, and possibly in all of Asia. Courses were supplied in English (other than in the Chinese division) and followed the British system.
At the time I existed, subjects were half-year or full-year and pupils would generally take 3 or 4 courses/subjects for the whole year. That indicates they would sit for 3 or 4 last examinations at the end of the year.
Of all the topics supplied,’ Geography and Geology was the just one that interested me. That subject made up 2 training courses, which implied I would sit for 2 final examinations at the end of the year. (At the very least I assume that is exactly how all this worked– it mored than 50 years back, nevertheless.)
Instead of selecting a 2nd subject, the college let me take some non-graded courses via the HKU extramural program as my 2nd subject …
